A letter from Maritza Davila
Good Afternoon ladies and gentlemen!
My name is Maritza Davila; I am running for Paterson City Council at large on May 2014.
You may ask…. Who is Maritza? Maritza Davila is a daughter, a sister, a Mother and a friend. I am a lifetime resident of our wonderful diverse city of Paterson. I’m a graduate of School 20 and Eastside HS. I have a Bachelors of Arts in Communications from Monmouth University and a Masters in Administrative Science from Farleigh Dickenson University.
I am a single mother and Paterson tax payer WHO for the last 8 years has seen & felt the decline our city has suffered, and after a long conversation with family, friends and colleagues I’ve decided to throw my hat in the ring, once again, to bring forth a fresh set of ideas so that we can put in motion the “Change” that we need and we want to see in this community.
For the last 20 years in different capacities, I have worked at Passaic County Community College. Today I am the Assistant Director of Admissions. I have devoted long hours and vast resources to making sure that every parent and student that walks through my door has the resources necessary to have an adequate education. For over 12 years I have volunteered my time in the different communities advocating for social services, education, taxes and immigration, and it is my involvement and the roots that I have created at the State, County and Municipal levels that makes me uniquely qualified to bring a set of ideas that is proactive, rather than reactive in approach.
In closing I want to leave you with a verse from the bible that every time I read reminds me of the great need to remind ourselves of what it is to have a sense of “COMMUNITY” or what it is to be a Servant, but not “SELF SERVANT”
Galatians 6: 7-10 “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”
I know we all pray for “hope and change” but change will never come if you continue to elect leaders that do not have the best interest of the community at heart, leaders that serve themselves before they serve you, leaders that think about their special interest before they think about you.
That’s why today I humbly not only ask you to open your hearts and your wallets, but I also humbly ask for your VOTE of confidence so that I Maritza Davila can serve this community, OUR Community on the Paterson City Council. Thank You & GOD Bless!
